Ideas for Christmas

It’s that time of year again!

I thought I’d remind you of a couple of posts from last Christmas that are still relevant now – Firstly, some ideas of resources for Christmas.
Secondly, I’d like to reintroduce you to my friend, El pequeño petirrojo and introduce his French cousin, Le petit gorge rouge (see below)
Thirdly, some wonderful ideas about using The Snowman
And to highlight some ideas from elsewhere –
Alice Ayel has instructions on making a homemade nativity scene
Mark Purves has put together a quiz using Smartboard for French cultural information.
The BBC Primary Spanish site has a slideshow about events over the Christmas period in Spain.
A few ideas in this thread on the TES Forum and you can always check out resources in the TES Connect Resources area.
That should keep you going!
And a video to finish!

Received an exciting email from the Consejería de Educación today about courses for teachers of Spanish.

Sessame Street is 40 this year as Google reminded us yesterday when the Wallace and Gromit 20th birthday mast head was replaced with one celebrating Sesame Street. Today it’s Oscar the Grouch!

So, in honour of Sesame Street’s birthday, here’s a very catchy song from Mexico about fruit and healthy eating.
¡Qué os disfrutéis!

Here’s one for your older ‘pop’ loving pupils. The Jonas Brothers of Disney Channel fame learning a (devilishly tricky it has to be said!) song – and not doing badly!

And here’s Vanessa Hudgens from High School Musical singing When there was you and me including a Spanish section in the middle – subtitled.

El Mundo de Pocoyo

I have declared my affection for Pocoyó previously on this blog and have subscribed to the Youtube channel dedicated to this lovely little chap. His latest clip is above and announces Mundo Pocoyó.

As the blurb says –

Welcome to Pocoyo World!

A huge virtual world where kids, parents and carers can share adventures with their favourite characters: play with Pato in the theme park, visit Ellys shop or paint and colour with Pocoyo.

Educational activities, games, puzzles, episodes, music and dancing, all available in a totally secure environment, with one simple objective: learning through laughter.

www.pocoyoworld.com

Available in English or Spanish, the site seems to function much like Club Penguin, with you having your own character – a Pocoyó like personaje- and, by earning tickets by completing games, you can buy pets, furniture etc. It’s a social place as you can interact with other members.

Fun place to visit – and good for playing with another language.

So, the decision about to whom London pass on the Olympic flame at the end of 2012 will soon be made. And much to everyone’s surprise, Chicago (despite Obama) are out and Madrid are still in to fight it out head to head with Rio.

The smart money is on Rio but Madrid can dream for a bit longer. Here is their promotional video.

The third clip is poorly synchronised with the subtitles unfortunately!

Mrs Jones room

Whilst writing an article on storytelling for a future publication, I found a song I’d downloaded to which I wanted to refer. As often happens, I couldn’t recall whether I’d been sent it by a friend, downloaded it from a fora or found it online.

After a bit of searching – which took me once more to the wonderful West Sussex GFL language resources – I found that it had come from a site called MrsJonesRoom. When I approached the eponymous MrsJones for permission to use the song, she was very accomodating and pointed me towards other Spanish resources on her page.

I’ve had a look at some of the links and particularly like the downloadable mini books and the songs, complete with sound files of the tunes! There are even some Spanish Disney songs – great for EDL? Sadly there are a number of ‘dead’ links which is a shame but it’s well worth a look.

Thanks to the above tweet I’ve found this song that won’t stay out of my head.

A lovely summer feel good song.

Hope you enjoy it too!

With all sorts of bugs doing the rounds at the moment, here’s another little gem that is
a)fun
b)free
c)useful and topical.

El Barrio Sésamo in Mexico has made this little video to encourage children to wash their hands and advises them to sing part of the song ‘Pin Pon’ to help them judge how long it should take.

So let’s see if the sinks will be ringing to the sound of children singing and washing…;o)
